Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee called her family in Little Rock last week with some exciting news. She’s engaged. Dad John tells Paper Trails that Amy, 25, has known her 28-year-old fiance, Josh, since her high school days in Little Rock. He attended Arkansas Baptist, has a master’s degree and is employed by a Christian organization in New York working with chemically dependent patients. John reports that Josh, who’s also a writer, lives in New York (as does Amy), and the pair have been dating for about 1 1/2 years. And Josh is apparently an old-fashioned kind of guy. He asked John for Amy’s hand a couple of weeks ago while the two men were walking together in Manhattan. At that time, Josh confided to John that he was awaiting an antique ring, expected it to arrive while the band was in Japan, and that he’d pop the question there. Instead, Josh proposed earlier, a few nights ago in Canada. “I guess the ring must have arrived early and it was burning a hole in Josh’s pocket,” says John. “And, yes, he got down on his knee.” The pair aren’t planning a rush to the altar but will instead enjoy their engagement for awhile, predicts John. I’m a marriage and family therapist and an ever-growing fan of Amy Lee.
Since before I knew who Amy Lee was, I have thought the lyrics and musical expression of Evanescence were therapeutically profound. I have become fascinated by all of the references to therapy, healing, and working through issues that Amy has consistanty made in interview after interview all over the world. When she was asked what she would do if she couldn’t do music or chose to stop, she responded with little hesitation that she’d be a psychologist or a socail worker.
All of that said, I think it is pretty significant that she’s marrying an old high-school friend who is, himself, a therapist.

I am so happy for her. I am a huge fan of Amy Lee. If I could, I would so marry her, even though I am only at the age of 14. I love all her music, every last song. For about 2 years, I have had a huge crush on Amy. The people at my table finally agreed that she is ‘the’ most gorgeous girl on this earth. She has the best voice I have ever heard in my life. “Good Enough” is the best song I have ever heard. Before I die, I want to have a nice conversation with Amy Lee, that is my wish.

johnoson(number 13) is totally right! If U would really be as in love with her as you say you are you would be able to be happy for her! and anyways, what do u think? she’s in love with Josh so do u think she’s gonna like u for saying that stuff about him? I don’t think so!

Amy’s dad proudly showed us her wedding pictures today. I am so glad that (even though I have never met them) these two people had such a wonderful day. A picture really does say a thousand words. Hope you two will be just as happy 50 or 60 years from now… and no need to say good luck… Congrats!

I would love to see Amy Lee and Alicia Keys perform a duet since they’re both classically trained and they’re both prodigy’s of neo-soul/neo-rock (metal) movement. I could just hear the deep soul of the streets from Alicia and the bellowing cries of revelation from Amy. Hell they could do a whole album together call it “AKAL:FROM THE ASHES”.
