 Britney Spears’s much anticipated comeback performance was anything but. However critics are not only panning the 25-year old pop star’s lackluster dance moves and bad lip-syncing at the recent MTV Awards. Spears’ physical appearance has been talked about in the last few days as much as her bad performance. According to reports even Spears herself felt she was too fat once she caught sight of herself on the screen. However, Amy Lee of the group Evanescence is perplexed by the use of the word “fat” to describe Britney Spears. Lee noted that “I don’t get that she’s fat… I think we have a skewed perception of what fat is – because that’s not it.” |

Britney Spears may be a lot of things…but fat she is not. Sure she isn’t as fit or toned as she used to be, but she is in healthy weight range. I wish people would stop focusing so much on weight. I wish we went back to the days where women with big round hips and pale skin were adored.

I think it’s really sad that Amy’s the only person who’s spoken up to say what’s true. The fact that people actually think Britney was fat in her performance is just rude. She doesn’t have a gut or anything hanging over the sides of her outfit. And I think it’s really sad that Britney herself agrees that she’s fat, and doesn’t stand up for herself. She doesn’t even say something like, “The camera adds 10 pounds!” or “Are you kidding me? I’m not fat!”

I think it’s exceptionally classy of Amy to defend Britney (as far as the ‘fat’ thing goes) despite the fact (or maybe just rumors) that they have had previous conflicts. And after hearing the ‘fat’ backlash I really felt that ‘fat’ was harsh and unnecessary and I’m glad Amy is mature enough to agree as well.

I agree with Jennifer I don’t think that Amy was trying to label Britney as fat.I just think it’s so sad that we focus on the weight issue,I think we should just like the person for who they are.

i dont think britney is fat. not at all, and amy is amazing for being one of the only people with the right image of how a womans body should look like. I do, however, think that Britney is too old to be wearing clothes like that.

I believe that amy is correct. according to ppl these days everyone whos not a size 4 or less is fat. I’m size 3 and i am bulimic, a Junior, and 17. I’m actually tring to look fatter but it jus doesn’t make a different in the eyes of others. But you know wut the funny thing is. i still look in the mirror and think i’m fat sometimes… that i’m too round or sumthing… :(

I don’t think that Britney is fat at all, and I applaud Amy for standing up for her. In the Star magazine world, Brit is considered fat but in the rock world, in Amy’s eyes and our eyes, she’s not.

I think it is wonderful to stand up for others….Good on you Amy! We really need more people like that out there, who dont judge from the outer appearence…I think Britney Spears looks fine…more womanly & thats more beautiful…The expectations of today’s society is just ridiculous…they want every woman to be a certain weight…and I think it was totally beautiful of Amy to stand up for Britney!…Love it!
