Seether frontman responds to Evanescence song    ·    September 16th, 2006

Seether frontman Shaun Morgan is not particularly happy about the new song by Evanescence, “Call Me When You’re Sober.” That band’s singer, Amy Lee, has said in interviews that the track was inspired by the end last year of her relationship with Morgan, who entered a 28-day rehab program for drug and alcohol abuse in July. Morgan exclusively told us that he wasn’t pleased to hear about the song: “It saddens me that our whole relationship was reduced to that. That, you know, almost three years we spent together comes down to ‘Oh, woe is me, you don’t care about me.’ I’m disappointed that that’s all that really mattered. I’m kind of irritated that our dirty laundry had to be aired, you know, all over the world. I wouldn’t do that to somebody.”

Seether will play some scattered live dates this fall but Morgan told us that the band is concentrating on writing its third album, which he hopes to begin recording by November. Their latest release, an live acoustic CD/DVD package called One Cold Night, came out this summer.

The singer and guitarist is also engaged and will become a father for the second time in November. He has a young daughter from a previous marriage.

The new Evanescence disc, titled The Open Door, arrives on October 3rd.

Shaun, but it seems as though a harmless song.Give Amy some props here, that song is HUGE.Not just the lyrics but the way it was made.I mean we all know that you write songs about relationships all the time.Remember ‘Broken’??

  2. Silvana Says:

well of course it hurt Shaun but u know what?? this song is the shit and we ( girls) need that, take all that from our inside and just say it to the guy face, Amy rules! n she can sing about whatever she wants thats the good thing aobut being a singer, so yeah Pros to Amy, she;s the best!

  3. Aphex Says:

I think she went too far. People migh have known it was about him but no one will know for sure unless you open your fat mouth and tell the world – he’s obviously got issues – who doesnt? but kicking him while he’s down, she’s just blatantly after the publicity. She won’t show sex appeal (lies anyway) but she’ll openly be a bitch so people will listen to what she’s saying. What a hypocrit! Amy blows!

  6. sacha Says:

No, she didn’t go too far. She did what her heart, mind and soul required. This was totally give and take. I would have done the same thing. And we ALL do, but her life is in public, so people critique it. Why are we beating her up for what we say and do behind doors? Amy rocks!

while “call me when your sober” is ok, sean’s song “fake it” was way better. in the battle of the bands between these two, Seether has definately won. after The Open Door, Evanescence has kinda been put in the shadows while Seether is still blowing up over FINDING BEAUTY IN NEGATIVE SPACES. Plus, i loved Evanescence’s first album, however The Open Door has been a step backwards as far as i am concerned.

Amy Lee suck and she always has she has ripped of bands and stepped on dozne of people to gain any amount of fame she can get her hands on. Shes not even that good all her songs suck and especially the whole cd The Open Door sucks.

She doesn’t care about anyone or anything just money.

(I have already posted this on a different board thingy, but I don’t feel like writing out another rant that will end in the same conclusion. Oh how I love copy and paste!) I know this is like an older issue, but really it’s just a song. And Amy writes about stuff that has happened, which I think is good. That’s what makes Evanescence such a great band! Amy doesn’t sing about stuff which happened to others, she writes about things that have happened to her. Her feelings, thoughts etc. Does it matter who the freaking song is about? It just shows her overcoming a bad relationship. And why not write about him?It was something in her life that she had to deal with, and in a song it just makes it so much better when the situation has actually happened to the person singing. It gives passion to the song, and makes it that much more inspiring. But then again I guess i am biased, as are most people in this forum thingy. I love Evanescence and Amy, and I really don’t care for Seether or Shaun. Maybe if I did, I would think differently, but I doubt it. She has every right to write a song about something she went through. Also I bet that if this song was about a different person, lets say someone non famous, not many people would care to argue about it being wrong of her. Well I am done ranting, for now. xD Have a great existence!(Note:I would say day, but then I probably will never talk/argue with any one who reads this so I feel that existence works better.)
